Oldies but still Goodies

Cartoon County & Geek Heaven

One of the best things about Brighton is the close proximity of lots of amazingly talented, creative people. One of the best parts about that is that lots of creative comic types have called Sussex and South England home. So on the last Monday of each month, Corinne Pearlman (my editor at Myriad Editions) and David Lloyd (the illustrator of “V for Vendetta”) host a get together called Cartoon County at the Cricketers Pub in Brighton to drink beer and talk comics.

My sketch of Fabry while he was talking

Last night we hosted Glenn Fabry. If you know who he is, you know his work is amazing. If you don’t know who he is, going into a comic shop, ask someone to show you his work and they’ll swoon. It’s some very cool (albeit, often very twisted) stuff.

So last night, we listened to him being interviewed for a podcast by Fraser Geesin of, drank beer and just had fun listening to someone pretty legendary talking about their career in comics; all this is room of less than 20 in a small function room of a pub in Brighton. I love it.

This is his version of my minotaur!

At the end, he said he’d do commission sketches for £20. I’ve never asked for a commission in my life, but elected to here. So here’s what he drew for me.

Until next time,

Nye (a.k.a. George)
